Wednesday, May 26th, 2010Wild Bills – The new House DJ?
Saturday, May 15th, 2010Normally I wouldn’t take on a bar gig. Bars are a very different kind of clients with a different set of guests and patrons.
But Wild Bills does offer me some unique advantages as well as venue.
For those who do not know where Wild Bills is, it is in the North Hill Inn (7150 50ave Red Deer)
It is a Sports Bar by design, but is looking to make the move to a more mature night spot with a mix of Live bands and a DJ. The clients here tend to be a little older than the normal tweeny (late teens early 20′s) crowds that pack the other night clubs.
The music I play here is mostly classic rock, modern rock with some top 40 and country mixed in. Much like you would expect at a wedding, which is what makes this a great job a few nights a week. The staff is also really awesome, good friendly people. So all in all it’s a great environment.
I get to bush up on my music I wouldn’t normally play at a wedding and reconnect with those old tunes that have been put aside for other popular favorites. Along with making the odd announcements, which is great practice for my public speaking skills as I am not often hired as an MC and spend more time coaching others (which still requires me to be knowledge able about what I am doing with experience).
I also have the advantage of flexibility. I am here Thursdays and Fridays, which are very very seldom booked for weddings, and Saturdays I can come in when I am not already booked. So I never have a Saturday to sit at home with nothing to do.
All in all it’s a win win for me and Wild Bills. I’m their third DJ they have had in and already been told they wish I was the first. Third times a charm right? I hope I can continue to impress and improve the attendance here with good good music while continuing to improve my own skills which only make me a better entertainer for all my clients.
