Christmas Bookings

Monday, June 28th, 2010

For those who enjoy a good Christmas party. Now is the time to book your entertainment. As a general rule booking a DJ 12 to 6 months prior to a Corporate function is always a good idea. You will get your first choice entertainment and often before they are snapped up by other pro-active companies.

As will my weddings I do like to meet with the booking agent and hear how previous parties were handled, what they liked and didn’t like. I find there is little consistency with many companies as far as year to year booking and often they will go to a different entertainer every year. Which is why I offer price protection, businesses that book consecutive years can receive the benefit of the same price they paid the year before.

The other benefits of an early booking is the preparation if you plan on having an awards ceremony or other entertainers. Christmas is a busy time for many DJ’s and it is easy to be swamped with work with Friday and Saturday night bookings. The more time to prepare is always a benefit to everyone.

If you would like to Book with me, TJ the DJ. My current price starts at $900 which will include a comprehensive and customizable package for your event as you choose. At August 30 2010 the price will increase to $1000 to cover increasing costs of music, licensing, insurance and other costs of business that I am responsible for as a Professional Entertainer.

Unfortunately there are too many fly by night DJs who offer a good sounding deal, unfortunately too many people have supported unlawful business practices for too long and the cheap DJs have lowered the expectations of clients. Be sure you have a contract and meet your DJ in person before you sign it.

A New Look

Monday, June 21st, 2010

I have been working hard with the help of my Cousin to update the look of my site to something more modern and I hope functional. I have a few more things to add and change and suggestions and comments are always welcome. As part of my commitment to provide the best services and features I hope you will find my site more functional and easier to navigate than before.

I will also be re-writing many of the pages and updating my features page. I have had some comments that it is a bit much to navigate though and text heavy so I will be looking to condense that page this week.

If you would like to compare the old site to the new one, just type www.reddeerdj.com/indexold.html and you will be sent to that page.

In the coming weeks I hope to add some downloadable documents, tip sheets, contract and more. I will also be making a greater effort to blog more, I am not sure who reads them, but I think on random chance someone will find what I post to be informative and helpful.

I have a busy few weeks coming up, I have 4 times the bookings over last year and still have many dates available for the summer and fall. I have recently purchased 2 brand new speakers and a new black light and have a couple other projects and goals in mind for the fall.

I thank you for taking the time to read my blogs, I hope they are helpful and show some insight into me, my goals and ambitions for my business as well for the industry. I always  take comments to heart, as is demonstrated by my new and I think improved web site.

Thank you.

A great Blog about the differences in DJs

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

I wont copy /paste the complete post, it is kind of lengthy but worth the read. it really does a good job talking about the differences between a professional DJ and the hobbyist and why there is a difference in prices. This article is one of many that are slowly popping up as more cheap and bad Djs flood the industry because technology makes it too easy and there is no real accountability.

Have you been in contact with your DJ?

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

I just received a call this morning from a bride to be who is getting married in under 2 weeks. She is calling me because the DJ she hired is not answering her calls or texts.

What is also disconcerting to hear is this DJ who has been in the business for over 20 years and should know better, refused to have a contract, he simply took the deposit and left it at that.

For those who have read some of my previous posts you will note just how much importance I put into having a signed contract. It is the only way to hold either party involved accountable.

This is the second year I have had the same DJ Company put a bride to be though the stress of having a major element of their event going wrong. Although I appreciate the business and I will endeavor to do the best job I can on such short notice and reassure a bride that her wedding can still be the event she has been planning for so long.

So I encourage ALL brides to be sure you are in regular contact with your entertainer. This is only the first call I will receive this year to see if I can save a bride from the unprofessional-ism of another DJ who once again makes this industry look bad.

Call your DJ or entertainer today and remind them that they work for you, not the other way around by checking in and seeing what they have done to prepare for your event, what new ideas have they learned to help set your event apart from others and if you don’t have a contract… get one.

I can’t imagine the stresses a bride feels when she makes that call to another DJ/Entertainer when they decide/discover their original DJ/entertainer who sold them above any other person they spoke to, becomes a no show.
